MABTR Family - Jodi, MO

I would tell anyone who is thinking about volunteering to DO IT!!! It is heartbreaking at times but the happy lives these dogs live once we get them in their new homes is so worth it! Remember you don't know what you are missing out til you at least try. Fostering is not for everyone but how do you know without the experience. At times it will not be easy but I promise you it will be worth it!

I have been a volunteer for MABTR since April 2020. I thought about working with a rescue organization for years, but then Covid hit and I found myself home with all this time so why not now. It gave me the push I needed to actually volunteer. I now serve as a MABTR foster home in the Kansas city, MO area.

I got my first Boston going on 9 years ago and just fell in love with the breed. I have always been passionate about animals. I’ve had a pet pretty much since I was a newborn. My Dad always said I had a way with animals, every pet we had growing up was mine.

The greatest challenge working with an animal rescue is letting go of them. I get the motivation from each foster when I see the positive change in each one once they feel loved and safe in my home. Unfortunately, many arrive in my home with an unknown background and breaking through the shell of the scared ones takes time and patience, but so worth it once you do!

My favorite part about volunteering for MABTR is the dogs of course! A bonus is the friends I have made along the way through my relationships with other MABTR volunteers and my adopters. It is nice to get updates on my foster dogs that have been adopted to see that my decision in their new family was spot on.
