MABTR Family - Mike and Jennifer in MO

ree

Someone who is thinking about fostering should ask themselves just one question. What is the best thing that could happen if I did this?

The answer? You will be part of saving a life!  You will never ever regret time that you invested toward saving a precious pup!

We have been volunteers for MABTR since 2020. We adopted a Boston, the late, great Two Toe Joe, from the organization. Volunteering seemed like a natural next step. W

e serve as proud foster parents!! We realized that becoming involved with the rescue would allow us to bring the same joy to other families that Joe brought to us. So many times, we match a pup to a home that has recently gone through the tough time of losing a pet. Being part of making a family complete and filling a hole in the heart for both the dog and the humans is the best feeling in the world!

The greatest challenge working with an animal rescue is it can really tug on the heartstrings to meet a pup that has gone through a tough time- leaving a puppy mill, an owner death, stray or abandoned. The flip side of that is the peace in knowing that we will be part of their journey towards healing. All we have to do is take one look in the eyes of our own dog!! Looking at the precious life saved is all the motivation we need to help other pups find their human match.

Our favorite part about volunteering for MABTR is meeting new dogs! It's so fun to get to spend time with so many different Bostons! Some are sweet, some are spicy, some are wild, some are calm. But they are all beautiful souls who deserve a second chance!

We also love keeping up with our former fosters through the alumni page, seeing their little faces in the annual calendar and even still keeping up with some of their families years later!

While it can be challenging to say goodbye to a dog that we have been getting to know and getting to love, the reward of helping that dog and their forever family connect is immeasurable.
