I would encourage potential volunteers to check into MATBR and decide if it’s something you’re willing and able to do.
My husband and I have been associated with MABTR since we rescued our first Boston, Jewl, in 2009. We have been volunteering since 2023. When we adopted Jewl in 2009, she was a licky, snuggly rescue. We grew to love Bostons and added Jasper in 2010. We now have Strider and Rosie (a 2023 alumni).
We have volunteered as transporters and now we add fostering to our list.
We got involved in rescue work because there are so many dogs that need loving homes, and our love for our Bostons got us pulled our heart strings.
I get motivated when I find the perfect family to give my foster their forever home. I expect someone to ensure I am safe and happy so I am here to ensure that for the dogs.
My favorite part of volunteering is seeing the happy faces when we deliver the dogs to their forever homes. There is nothing like the feeling we get.
The greatest challenge is getting a foster that doesn’t like other dogs. We do not always know this detail til they show up in our home. We want to ensure safety so it is touch. We then seek out for petless fosters which are in high demand.
The second greatest challenge is letting them go to their new home though we know it is for the best. Sometimes you get really attached but there is another dog waiting for me.
Start with just volunteering and maybe you will get hooked and want them in your home. It is so rewarding, plus, you get lots of puppy kisses.
