Rehoming Your Dog

Thank you for reaching out to us for help with your Boston Terrier or Boston MIX. If you are reading this page, you are probably making an agonizing decision about what to do with a dog who no longer fits in your life. Please let us help you. We hope to make this as easy as possible for you, your family, and your Boston.

Alternatives to Consider before rehoming your pet

Is it at all possible that we can help you find solutions that will allow you to keep your pet? This is usually the best scenario for dog and family. We can’t guarantee miracles, but we do have extensive experience in dealing with a multitude of issues and can certainly offer suggestions and alternatives to giving up your dog.

Informative resources:

  • Can We Help You Keep Your Pet? Suggestions for pet issues

  • Dog Obedience – MABTR is happy to speak to you over the phone providing guidance, tools, and tips

  • Bell Training – a potty training technique that has helped many (training is only effective if there is not medical reason for pee accidents)

  • Let family and friends know of your situation as they may be an option for your dog

If you want to proceed with MABTR's rehoming services

You will be required to sign paperwork stating that you are legally surrendering your dog to MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue. We will place your dog in a foster home, NOT a facility or shelter.  All rescue dogs go into foster care where we evaluate their health, personality and behavior.  This will ensure we find the perfect home for your Boston.

While in our care, we will take care of any medical needs your dog may have. Your dog will be thoroughly evaluated, spayed/neutered (if not already), brought up to date on vaccines (if not already) and microchipped (if already chipped we will transfer ownership to MABTR). We will also take care of any serious issues, dental problems, or other ailments that may otherwise cause your dog a diminished quality of life prior to rehoming.

We treat every dog that enters our program like our own.  We take pride in what we do and would never put your dog in harms way.

Surrender Fees

Please be advised that neither the rescue individual/organization nor the family or individual adopting the dog will compensate you any amount for your dog, and we encourage a monetary donation of $50 to help us cover the costs of caring for your dog. Donations of crates, bedding, and other dog items are also greatly appreciated, as are further monetary donations. (all of the money goes toward caring for Boston Terriers.)  If you are not able to cover the donation suggested this will not deter us from helping your boston.

How To Get Started

You will need to fill out, print, and sign the surrender form (click here for PDF file of the surrender form). We will collect the surrender form along with your surrender donation and medical records when your Boston arrives in our care.  In the meantime please collect current vet records.  We require proof of rabies, distemper/DHPP, and heartworm testing, if current.  We do not want to repeat anything unnecessarily.  We will also take any belongings you want the dog to go with such as toys, bowls, clothing, food, and crate.
