Boston Terriers are little dynamos—smart, playful, and often bursting with energy despite their small size. Here are some Boston-specific energy-burning tips to help channel that zest:
High-Energy Outlets for Boston Terriers
1. Short, Frequent Walks or Zoomies
Boston Terriers don’t need marathon walks, but they do thrive on 2–3 daily bursts of activity. Try:
1. Morning and evening walks (15–20 minutes)
a. Change route, cross streets, make stops, include commands.
b. Walk with a harness and nylon leash. No flex leash or just collar due to breathing
2. A midday game of fetch or tug
3. Safe, supervised zoomie time in the yard or hallway
2. Tug-of-War or Fetch in Small Spaces
Because they’re compact and agile, Bostons can burn off a ton of energy indoors. Use soft balls or rope toys—avoid anything too hard to protect their jaws.
Brain Games for Busy Bostons
1. "Find It" Scent Game: Hide treats around a room and say “Find it!” to get their nose working. Their strong curiosity makes this a favorite.
2. Teach New Tricks
Bostons are intelligent and love to show off. Try:
· "Spin"
· "High five"
· "Go to your bed"
Keep sessions short, fun, and full of praise.
3. Interactive Puzzle Toys
They love a challenge! Use food puzzles, treat balls, or frozen KONGs to keep them mentally occupied while you're busy.
Enrichment Without Overdoing It
1. Rotate Toys Weekly
Bostons can get bored quickly. Swap out toys every few days to keep things fresh and exciting.
2. "Work for Food" Meals
Instead of a bowl, use a snuffle mat, treat ball, or scatter their kibble around the room to make mealtime a game.
Bonus: Encourage Healthy Rest
Bostons are prone to overheating, so balance play with plenty of cool-down breaks and calm cuddle time. A set routine helps them relax after the excitement.
