Happy Tails Books Boston Terrier BookJack: “I was going through a tough divorce and some scary medical issues when my daughter, Audrey, asked me for a dog. We ended up with Jack, who turned out to be the ‘little man’ we needed in our lives. He often dons his ‘Sunday best’ (whatever Audrey stuffs him into) to attend her tea parties. She sits down and then he opens the door and prances in like a bunny; always eager to make her feel good with kisses and ‘conversation.’” –Nicole Valentine

Eligible for the Golden Paws Program (adoptors 60 yrs and older adopting a dog 7 yrs and older get $50 off the adoption fee noted below) My name is DeeDee. I am 9 years old and weigh 24 pounds. I need a new home because my owner passed away. I am being fostered in Westminster, Co. I am a sweet lovable girl who enjoys playing with toys, snuggling and belly rubs. I have been an only dog all my life so I am snippy and bossy when first introduced to other dogs. I live with three other dogs now but I do not care to be friends or a playmate at this time. I prefer to ignore them and like them to ignore me. My foster mom thinks with time and training this could change. I love walks on a leash but I can be reactive when I see other dogs. My foster mom thinks I was allowed to make all the rules in my previous home but I am very food motivated and learn quick so with training I could be a better gal. I haven't been around kids so I don't know if I like them or not. I am housebroken, crate trained and know several commands. I am a good girl and just need time to adjust to the loss of my elderly owner who treated me like his baby. Here's a little more about me: Housetrained? Yes Leash-trained? Yes Rides well in car? Yes Good with other dogs? No please. I have lived my whole life as an only dog. I tolerate other dogs but not looking for a playmate or companion Good with cats? Forever home found!!! My name is Ozzie. I am 4.5 years old and weigh 19 pounds. I need a new home because my owner surrendered me as I was being abused by the male in the house. I am being fostered in Wichita, KS. When my foster mom first got me, I was very skittish and shook when she tried to hold me. She has been very patient with me and kept picking me up several times a day, just to hold me close and pet me. I got used to being loved on and now come when she calls me and reward her with lots of kisses. I play well with my foster dog brothers and sister - of course, we have the occasional tussle over a toy but solved with no problems! I've been here for a few weeks now and my foster mom says my personality is finally shining through! She says I am funny, cute, rambunctious, active and a very loving, sweet boy. I used to live outside most of the time but I really like this indoor living. At bedtime, I take over the pillows above mom's head and snuggle in for the night! I do have mom go outside with me to pee first thing in the morning and at bedtime because otherwise I run out and right back in. I don't mind being kenneled while mom is away and I greet her with hugs and kisses. I love to eat and treats are my favorite, especially green beans and coconut oil. I get super excited when I see my harness and leash and love to pick the mom end of my leash up and walk myself to the door! I love to ride in the car and am a good rider, usually right by mom in the front! Since I had been abused by a male, foster mom has been exposing me to men and so far I am passing with flying colors!! I let him pet me and played a little and was fine with another male in the house who came to greet me. I haven't had the best life in my short 4+ years but I've seen what the good life is and can't wait to meet my fur-ever family so I can settle in and make you happy! Some additional notes about me: House trained? Yes - I have had a few accidents in the mornings because of my run out and back in trick but since mom caught on and goes out with me, I haven't had a single accident. Leash trained? Yes Crate trained? Yes Rides well in car? Yes - love it! Good with other dogs? Yes Good with cats? Yes - There is a cat in the house and I'm fascinated with him. I like to chase him and bark at him sometimes but I never bite or hurt him in any way. Good with young children? No experience Good with strangers? Yes Shy or confident? Confident Barks? Upon occasion Apartment qualified? Yes Any Special needs or Health Issues? None known Adoption Fee: $250.00 All our dogs are spayed/neutered (if six months and older), up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm tested, and microchipped. Forever home found!!!! My name is Bindi. I am 3 years old and weigh 28 pounds. I need a new home because I have recently been released from a breeder. I am being fostered in St. Louis, MO. I am a very sweet and smart girl. I am learning what it means to be a companion pet and be around humans, but I am learning quickly from my foster brothers. A house where I can learn from other dogs would be great for me! I will make you chase me to get my leash on, but once I am on it, I will go outside happily. I like to be outside! I like to follow my foster mom around, but I also enjoy spending time in my crate. I definitely come out when it's time to eat! I am very gentle and am learning that being scratched behind the ears is pretty awesome, but I prefer to approach you for affection. It just takes me a little time to warm up. With a little time and patience, I will come out of my shell and be a great addition to your family! Older kids would be fine, but little kids will most likely scare me for now. I need a new home because I have recently been released from a breeder. I am being fostered in St. Louis, MO. I am very sweet, and I am slowly learning how to be part of a family. I am quickly learning how to walk on a leash, and I love the feeling of grass on my feet. I have not been used to being pet or loved on, so I am a little stand-offish at first. I have not had any accidents in my foster home. I am not yet playing with any toys, but I like snuggling up in my dog bed and being in the same room as my foster family. At this point, everything is new and different for me. Luckily, my foster family thinks that I am a very sweet girl who has incredible potential, especially once I learn how to trust my environment. I have never shown my foster family any sort of aggression or frustration - my eyes and actions show only sweetness. I am looking for a family who is willing to be patient and kind to me as I learn the ropes, and if there is another dog there who can help me learn, that would be great. *Adoption Process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at www.adoptaboston.com. My name is Zena. I am 4 years old. I weigh 25 pounds. I am needing a new home because I was released from a breeder after having my puppies. I am being fostered in Kansas City, MO. Currently I am very shy. I wag my tail and bottom anytime I see my foster family, but I am still a little afraid after leaving my life at a puppy mill. I LOVE to sit on the couch with my foster family, but they have to lift me up there as I haven't learned how to jump yet (there is nothing to jump on in a puppy mill cage, after all!). I am AMAZING with kids and love to be petted by them and to give them kisses. I am an incredibly gentle girl. I also love other dogs and ask that there be another dog in my new home. I have a Boston foster brother that I cuddle with and a mixed breed foster sister that I lay with, too. I am currently following them around to learn how to be a loved member of a family. I don't yet chase balls or toys, but I watch my foster brother when he does that and I am starting to show some interest. I would be a wonderful pet for a family and would love some other dogs in the family that I can model and learn from! I don't yet walk on a leash but I am learning. I haven't had any accidents in the house yet, but my foster mom works from home and has been diligent about taking me outside regularly. I watch my foster brother and sister do their business outside and I follow suit like a champ. I also love my crate and have no problems getting cozy in there when my family leaves the house. Overall I am a wonderful little Boston and would love a family that could be patient with me as I learn to be a house pet. I would do well in a home with: *Other dogs (small or big) - REQUIRED *Cats (not sure as foster family doesn't have them, but so far I haven't shown any aggression toward anything at all) *Children under 10 years old *Active household *Low-Active household *Condo/Apartment (once I learn to walk on a leash) I am working potty training. I do have a luxatting patella that does not seems to impact my ability to get around. My adoption fee is $250. This dog is up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm negative, and spay or neutered. Forever home found!!! Eligible for the Golden Paws Program (adoptors 60 yrs and older adopting a dog 7 yrs and older get $50 off the adoption fee noted below) My name is Posh. I am a 6 year old Boston/Basset MIX. I weigh 41 pounds. I need a new home because I was returned for a bite incident with a child that was admittedly caused by rough play. I am being fostered in Westminster, Co. I am a sweet and loveable gal who enjoys squeak toys, walks, soft dog beds and lots of gentile loving and play. I like the other dogs in the house as long as they don't play to rough. Did I mention I do not like rough play? I get grumpy and snappy when people or dogs play too rough. No young children please, they have been too rough with me in the past so I don't trust them. My foster family says I make them laugh with my funny antics and short legs. I use the pet door and have not had any accidents in the house. I know sit, stay, roll over, listen very well and learn new things quickly. I walk well on a leash but I do pull some especially when my nose is onto something. I would do well in a home with other dogs that play nice and has a laid back lifestyle as I am a laid back kinda gal. Here's a little more about me: Housetrained? Yes Leash-trained? Yes Rides well in car? Yes Good with other dogs? Yes Good with cats? Not yet tested Good with young children? No Good with strangers? Yes Shy or confident? Confident Barks? No Apartment qualified? Yes Any Special needs or Health Issues? I had a small Mast Cell tumor removed from my side with clean margins and would do best on a grain free diet. Eligible for the Golden Paws Program (adoptors 60 yrs and older adopting a dog 7 yrs and older get $50 off the adoption fee noted below) My name is Abbey. I will be 8 years old on 7-22. I weigh 34.5 pounds and in great need of losing a few pounds. I need a new home because my owner passed away. I am being fostered in Gladstone, Mo (outside of Kansas City). I am an energetic ball of fire! I don't let my extra fluff get in the way with chasing rabbits and squirrels. I like to jump up on your legs anytime I get excited, but I have been told that's not good manners so I am working on it. I love attention and belly rubs and I will put my paw on you to let you know that I need some loving. I will gladly roll over on my back to let you rub my belly. I love to go on car rides and I can even jump in and out of the car. I am good about coming immediately when you call my name. I get along great with my friend Georgia who is also a Boston but I don't like it when she is getting attention or a treat and I am not. That's another manner area I am working on. I don't show any aggression, I just like to be the center of attention. Since I'm a little on the fluffy side, I grunt a lot and get winded pretty easy and so I snore louder than a bear in hibernation. It is important that I go for walks and eat a healthy diet so I need to be with someone who can accommodate those things. Here's a little more about me: House trained ? Yes Leash-trained? Working on it Rides well in car? Yes but likes to move around a lot Good with other dogs? Yes Good with cats? Not tested yet Good with young children? Not tested yet Good with strangers? I will bark at strangers at first Shy or confident? Confident Barks? Barks at the door bell and when strangers are walking by Apartment qualified? No as I bark Any Special needs or Health Issues? Yes I am back. I am needing a home with low activity as I tend to bark when lots is going on. *Adoption Process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at www.adoptaboston.com. Eligible for the Golden Paws Program (adoptors 60 yrs and older adopting a dog 7 yrs and older get $50 off the adoption fee noted below) My name is Ingrid, and I am an 8 year old female Boston Terrier MIX. No one knows exactly what I am mixed with, but my foster mom thinks maybe something like a Pomeranian, because my tail has such a cute curl! I weigh 16 pounds. I am needing a new home because I was found as a stray in Kansas City and taken to the shelter. I am being fostered in Manhatten, KS. As you can see, I didn't get the smooshed face of my Boston parent, but I did inherit all of the love, affection, and smarts of the breed! I LOVE to cuddle on your lap and follow you around to see what we're doing today. I like to do a cute little dance when my foster mom gets out the leash, because I know that means we're heading out on a walk. I walk wonderfully on a leash and wag my tail at any dogs we pass. Did I mention how friendly I am to other dogs and cats? I see them all as potential friends, but I am calm as can be when I meet them. I just wag my tail and sniff a little. I also low car rides. I just sit calmy in the front seat and look out the window, or curl up and go to sleep. I love accompanying my foster mom when she drops off the kids at school. I give them a kiss goodbye and wag my tail. I love everyone I encounter, whether they are adults or kids or other dogs. I am as agreeable, sweet, and low-maintenance as a dog could be. Do you have a couch to lay on? If so, I will fit into your home perfectly! I am entering my golden years, so my hyper puppy days are behind me. At this point in my life, all I want is for someone to welcome me into their family and show me love. I am a very gentle girl, and I carry myself in a very sophisticated manner. I know to go to the door to potty, and I prance around the backyard and watch my crazy 4-legged foster brother chase balls around. I don't care to play with toys, but I will happily sit by you on the back porch and enjoy the outdoors. I would be a perfect companion for a retired person or couple who just wants my affection and can show me lots of love. I would do well in a home with: *I am potty trained *I am good with dogs and cats *Children above 12 is preferred as they tend to not be so loud *Low active household would be best *I qualify for an apartment *Health - I did have cell mass tumors (cancer) remove from my mammary glands. I am in the process of healing right now. With any cancer, though removed, there is always a chance for it to return. My adoption fee is $150. This dog is up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm negative, and spay or neutered. MABTR requires a fenced in area from families who live in house, however we DO adopt to apartment complexes and communities where fences are not allowed. Forever home found!!!! Eligible for the Golden Paws Program (adoptors 60 yrs and older adopting a dog 7 yrs and older get $50 off the adoption fee noted below) My name is Winston (Winney). I am a dashing 12 year old weighing in at 19.7 pounds. My owners moved to China and felt I would not be able to make the trip. I am being fostered in Shakopee MN. I have had a rocky start to life but have always kept my head up in hopes I would find a great furever home. I have been in multiple homes since 2006. As a result I have made potty accidents as I never was given enough guidance or time to adjust to new environments or routines. Now that I am in my Foster home, I have had only once marked and never pottied in the house. They take me out every 2 hours to make sure I have an empty bladder. I haven't even told you the best part, they have a huge house with other dogs I get to play with and yard to RUN in. There are dogs my size, they look like me too and then there are ones who look like a giant version of me. Their called Boxers, boy are they big and fun to bark at and chase! After all of the fun I get to have, I LOVE to lay on all their dogs bed, especially in the sun to take naps. One of the best parts of my day, by far! Psst my parents also let me snuggle with them on the couch and give them kisses, now that I got my dental cleaning done, I don't have bad breathe so they say its ok! All I am looking for is a home a home that I can finally call my own and warm place to lay my head! Here's a little more about me: Housetrained? Yes but needs to go outside often - will run to door to let you know he needs to go. Leash-trained? Yes, but does better with a harness. Rides well in car? Yes Good with other dogs? Yes - Big & Small Good with cats? Don't know Good with young children? Yes Good with strangers? Yes Shy or confident? Confident Barks? Only when he wants to engage the other dogs in play Apartment qualified? Yes Any Special needs or Health Issues? He only has about 10% vision in his right eye and about 50% in his other eye.
